The southernmost vineyards on the African continent, ancient soils, extreme winds, a raw landscape, custodians of nature, terroir-driven wine, a quest for adventure. This is the Agulhas Wine Triangle, Wine for Explorers.
The FNB Sauvignon Blanc, South Africa’s only competition exclusively devoted to Sauvignon Blanc, revealed the top 20 contenders for the top 10. Agulhas Wine Triangle is proud to announce that three of our members are in the top 20, including Cederberg Wines, Lomond Wine Estate and Strandveld Vineyards.
The following wines are contenders for the FNB Sauvignon Blanc Top 10
The Agulhas Wine Triangle’s coastal maritime climate and cool ocean breeze leads to gradual ripening and distinctive characteristics of the grapes. The area is particularly well-known for Sauvignon Blanc that reflects its extreme terroir. The low yields lead to wine with concentrated flavours, structure and depth.
The Agulhas Wine Triangle was established in 2019 to showcase the unique wines from the Agulhas area. Geographically, members are situated within a triangle with Lomond on the top western corner, Bruce Jack Wines in the top middle, Sijnn and Olivedale Private Vineyards on the top eastern corner, and Black Oystercatcher Wines and Strandveld Wines on the southern corner. The David Nieuwoudt Ghost Corner wines are made from fruit sourced in this area, as are some of the wines in the Trizanne Signature Wines range.
The Top 10 winners will be announced at the FNB Sauvignon Blanc Top 10 gala awards dinner on Wednesday 9 October at the FNB Portside building in Cape Town. A technical seminar based on this year’s performance is scheduled to take place on Wednesday 20 November in Franschhoek.
